Luna, Luna, Luna

I am back from Denver thank goodness. It was 8 degrees when I landed on Tuesday and snowing and my snot literally froze in my nose while waiting for Uber at the terminal on Tuesday am. It did warm up there before we left but we also had snow one night and had to walk to the convention center with our pants rolled up so not to get them wet. yeah fun!

ANY hoo, Three vet visits later, and Luna has more pills that most Walgreens! There is a story here, pull up a chair…

Luna is a pig so I changed her to the stall pellets last weekend before I left. Her eyes were watering but no big deal but by Monday I got vet out. We did a stain and nothing major wrong with her but we put her on banamine and some eye goop and went from there. NOW to get the stain done we had to sedate her and Luna fought like a monkey on crack and when Lindsay arrived on Tuesday (WHEN I was flying to Denver of course) she texted me this!

yes Ms Hothouse Flower decided that the needle was BAD NEWS and had a reaction to it. So now not only did Lindsay have to treat her eye and put fly mask on her and give her banamine but she had to sweat her neck. FUN TIMES.

To be fair, Luna felt like crap that week as well so she was easy to medicate. Which worried me while I was across the country! We also started her on aspirin for pain and etc.

It was hot and painful to touch. It is still thick now but we are doing a different sweat and putting her on Plavix (If the vet ever gets in in). But it doesn’t bother her now. Thank goodness.

Her eye is looking better too. We put her on Zyrtec (are you counting how much medicine this is?). Vet came on Monday and ultra sounded her neck and her blood is flowing so it is just still inflamed.

definitely better!

The left eye is the one obviously. Also she is very itchy so she rubbed her nose as well raw.

SO going forward:

We took her off the pellets which already seems to help. If it continues to drain (the eye) I will get straw to try she is on pine shavings now but never seemed to have an issue before. This is her first NC spring coming up so who knows what caused it?

She is on 15 Zyrtec for allergies, twice a day. Ointment in eye twice a day. Plavix once it is in. And crushing up 10 aspirin and mixing with the sweat ointment to slather on her neck once day (trying like hell not to get DMSO, Furacin or Dex on you while doing it).

me treating Luna

We keep a fly mask on her 24/7 except when you get the barn and see this LOL

And that is how I spent over 1000 bucks on vet costs in a week! Thanks Luna you da best (No she is not)!

  1. Oh Luna! I hope she’s feeling better soon. I keep a bottle of Zyrtec in my tack trunk because Dalton just loves to get hives. And actually, very much the same for his mom as I’ve been on an allergy medicine regimen for the last 5 days – UGH

  2. Oh man! Horses are the worst! THE WORST! Hope she does okay back on the other shavings. Eros also lives on an antihistamine due to shavings allergies. Benadryl worked for awhile but this winter I had to switch to Zyrtec also. He gets ten twice a day and it’s been keeping the hives away so far! Hope Luna is feeling better asap!
