Remus is doing fine. I have ridden 3 weeks in a row now and even went out the other day to just hack him. Not that we did much. The flies were horrid and it was hot. He was not enthused. Also my fly spray had R-U-N-N-O-F-T the last time I was there. Sigh. (TM The900FacebookPony (who brought this to my attention many years ago)ย and Brother Where Art Thou !
Anyway, we waddled around a bit. However, his Total Saddle Fit girth is up on both sides all the way so first thing I am going to do is order a 24 inch girth for him soon (any ideas, not completely thrilled with the TSF, May as Well Event already recommended me some).
We meandered around then walked around the property. I thought he would shy at the rocks. He didn’t, he tried to get to the grass instead. Things never change ๐
Our barn owners have chickens and turkeys now. Imagine Remus’s surprise when he saw them in their yard running around. HA.
He was pretty chill about them but did watch a bit. Then we meandered around the ring. He was so lazy (I did find my crop though out in the ring which helped that had R-U-N-N-O-F-T too) so we mostly wandered and trotted a bit. We do have a lesson tomorrow and it is supposed to be 60s so let’s hope we both feel more energetic? Maybe?? Our lessons have not been great yet. He is quite a slug and I am not much better. Or is it a Sloth? No matter we are both needing work on this thing called moving!
In the donkey world things are good.ย However their feet are bad so it is coming time I am going to have to bite the big one and lock them up in a stall and get farrier out. It will be a rodeo but it needs to be done. UGH. This is when I wish I had an army of people to help. I will get them locked up with a local friend and am hoping she can come back when the farrier is there. We may need to tag team. I hate to do it when they are getting so friendly finally but I still can’t catch them and it may be years for this. UGH…wish me luck.
Meanwhile who are the cutest donkeys in the land? If you said Ginger and Lola you would be 100 percent correct! Enjoy! ๐
They are also getting vocal. If they bray loudly my neighbor texts me worrying dogs are chasing them (this has happened including OLLIE) but now they are doing it even louder when they see me. Or when Mark comes home. Or when I am late with breakfast! HA.
Happy Friday. Hope everyone is doing well and have at least some plans including riding this weekend. I think some of you are allowed back to your barns? I hope those that aren’t that it comes soon for you!!
Awww the donks are starting to love you!
I was thinking about spending some time at the barn this weekend, but it’s going to be 40 degrees and raining, so decided this is not the weekend. Ha! I’m the worst horse mom.
Glad to hear all is well with Remus and you’re getting some saddle time again!

Oh my, best of luck with the donk feets! Mae is on a diet (turns out thoroughbreds are not supposed to be chunks) and super unhappy about it. Luckily that means she’ll fit back in her old girth by the time I can actually ride again
