GDCTA Eventing Summer Camp: First Day!

So Monday morning Remus and I headed toward Georgia! It was a LONG ride. I being typical dumb blonde forgot to take in account that we would LOSE an hour when we crossed into EST didn’t calculate our arrival right so instead of getting there by 300ish I got there at 4. So no hacking for us. But that was okay.

It was really hard to find gas in Alabama (from Mississippi to Birmingham there was one Pilot Truck Stop and it was tiny and I could NOT get gas due to the congestion in that parking lot WTF). So I pushed on and got gas past Birmingham then headed toward Georgia.

Once in the near area, I was kind of confused how to get into the property. I ended up at the wrong property (a boarding barn which can you IMAGINE boarding there next to Chatt??) and a nice man directed me onward. THEN there was a fork in the road so I was frantically texting Leigh (who has been to Chatt a lot) which way do I go. THANK YOU LEIGH! Finally figured it out and as I came up the hill, Chatt spread out below me I got chills. What a property. Really really amazing.

The barn was great and I was so lucky to have a corner stall. Remus enjoyed that stall for all the viewing he could do as well as the breeze. It was so nice. I also had a wonderful neighbor on one side and on the other side met some other friends. We ended up bonding this week and I feel like I have four new friends now. And the organizer, Joanne Morse was so great and intuitive all week on all our needs. It was amazing. ALSO I can’t not thank Budget Vet for doing the ‘OLD FART’ Grant which I won.

I got Remus settled in then took him out to graze some then went over for the pizza party. At that moment I didn’t know anyone and I was kind of wondering what I had done coming so far on my own with just my horse that I knew. Fear not, all turned out wonderful and great and everyone was SO FRIENDLY.

Did I enjoy it? HELL YES. Would I do it again. HELL YES AGAIN. It was the week of the lifetime.

I am so sore from riding twice a day two days in a row then cross country schooling on the last day. SO SORE!! And I got some media from cross country thanks to my new friend, Merance (WHO OWNS ADAMS how cool is this?) She has a cute Connemara cross pony, Revy, who is amazing too. SO MUCH FUN. BEST WEEK EVER.

I have a lot of writing to do so get ready. Happy Sunday!

  1. So excited you made it! I should have warned you about the gas stations. I typically stop at that pilot, but the congestion has been crazy the last couple times that I found another station I could get in and out of right around there. It’s an adventure for sure!
