Getting Older

My life is such a whirlwind it is not even worth talking about right now. Mark comes home tonight to help me with this place and I am so grateful. And stressed. And everything else.

Remus says don’t read this, she is lying!

But let’s talk about the older horse. I rode in a lesson last night (it has been so cool this week I could actually ride at night!) and Remus was not himself. I knew the minute I started tacking him up. He was pissy and just not happy at all. My lesson he was really good but I could tell he was just not 100 percent. Seemed a bit sticky in his back end again. Blew his right lead several times which is always a tell tale sign. And just really really careful as if something hurt but again not lame or stupid.

He had his stifles done last Spring. He had Adequan around the same time. He has cost me over 1000-1500 for all this maintenance and he has been feeling great. He is even on OsteoMax now which I hoped may help (the whole barn is on it).

He is 20 now so I get it that horses get older and more maintenance is needed as they do that. But he is not overworked nor is he overused by lessons.

So I emailed Poppy and the barn manager to see what we can to make him more comfy. I am glad I am leaving him at Trinity right now as I don’t have a barn yet in NC and want him taken care of. Once Fall arrives he can move East then.

Meanwhile we are closing on the new house next Wed! Photos are being done of our current place Monday, eeks! Last week with all the rain we postponed. The place is looking better (got the front field done by our very nice neighor this week.) but still. Pray someone falls in love and can see past the roughness!!

Also I still don’t have a home for the minis. If anyone has any leads on message boards etc, let me know. I am going to be VERY PICKY about where they go and if I have to they can go to NC and I will board them while I look for a perfect home for them….

perfect live lawn mowers for the front yard (esp when raining)

That is it in a nutshell. A very crazy, cracked, over the hill nutshell! Happy Thursday (I had to go see what day it was as I was not sure!) Oy vey!

  1. Give Remus my best. I hope he is feeling much better very soon. All the house buying and selling sounds equally exhausting and exciting. And yeah to the cooler weather for you. That helps with everything. I hope it stays that way for you through this move.

  2. Aww, poor Remus! Maybe wants his hocks done. Hope he’s feeling better soon! I can’t believe he’s 20!
Best of luck selling the farm. Around here your place would have been gone before you even got it listed, so hopefully it’s quick where it’s actually located too!
