Old News!
Last we heard the vet was coming out for Remus on Thursday (news flash I got bumped to Friday and about had a shit fit when they suggested rescheduling for this week so Friday it was). It was hot as fire as it has been the last few weeks. The ground is tough and gross. It is not fun.
this was Friday am before the vet came…
Luckily the vet brought two young, nimble techs so I handed the lead rope to them to trot said buckskin. Glad I did. Even though it was very hot, Remus was a bit fresh and tried to nip one tech and leap up on the other one at a trot. Still lame but still very much Remus!!

He showed lameness in back end still and even a bit head bobbing to the front but for now we are treating the back end as we think it relates to the front. After flexions of all joints (none of which he really really reacted to other than not wanting to pick his feet up) we chose to xray his hocks. He had hock injections in April 2023 so just over a year ago. But his stifles seemed okay so hocks it was. Neither side looked that horrible (I mean for a 22 year old fat quarter horse)! He has some cartilage loss and some hooks. But we are going to inject this week on Thursday (they would have done it on Friday but I chose to take him to the clinic for the day in a more sterile environment than my back yard barn). The vet agreed.
So once we do the injections we will see how he goes. We hope it helps. It might not help at all. We just don’t know. It sucks to get old!! Ask me about it too.

I got stung by what I think was a yellow jacket last week and four days later my leg is still swollen and itchy as F! It hurt like a mfer at the time too. So me and Remus are both hobbling a bit!!
New News!

Meanwhile as of right now at 12:30 on Monday afternoon, Luna is on a transport heading to NC. I didn’t want to just jump with a trainer in order to move her and decided to bring her here to give me time to find a trainer a bit closer that I can haul her to in the next couple weeks. It will be some work juggling Remus and Luna turnout time etc but it was the most feasible opportunity and since the transport company had an opening today we jumped on it.

us to Luna
They have a cool tracking thing so I can see where there. As of right now it looks like they are almost into NC and near Charlotte.
That is me and my update. I need a nap just after typing all that. We need rain very badly and a break in this heatwave. I don’t even think it is as hot as it is in TN but it sapping my energy. UGH.

Happy Monday!!

After all that rain we got in TX, it’s hot as FK with no rain in the foreseeable future. I need to take a picture of the sweaty horses so we can compare notes

These summer extreme heat waves are a gut punch. And they don’t make the aging process any easier on ourselves or our horses, right? Seems like the temps go up or down 10 degrees and my entire body starts reeling. Here’s hoping the joint injections make Remus feel better and that Luna’s adjustment to her change in location goes well!

I hope the injections get Remus feeling better! Fingers crossed!
And yay for Luna coming home for a bit! I’m sure you’ll find the right fit for a trainer soon.
