Staycation: SO BUSY

Sorry I haven’t posted this week. I took the week off to use up some PTO I was going to lose and thought I would be at wit’s end filling the time. Here it is FRIDAY already and while busy as could be I didn’t get half the things done I wanted to. But there are reasons for this!

A) WEATHER

We finally got weather (AKA rain) out the ying yang. Like I got stuck at the barn last weekend for a full 50 minutes while a monsoon went down. And then several times this week we have had more torrential rains. So everything is muddy and gross and wet (AND HUMID). Yes the humidity has been horrible while not as warm as the week before it literally feels like you have ten layers of clothes on when you walk out the door into the outside. ICK.

B) AIRPORTS and MORE WEATHER

Not actual footage but what it looked like, crazy!

Mark got home on Tuesday night and his flight was delayed. I was sitting on the top parking deck waiting for his flight and saw him land and then also saw more storms rolling in. When I walked into the baggage claim area I have never seen so many people crammed in such a little space (PS I HATE CHARLOTTE AIRPORT). They had put a hold on baggage unloading due to weather. After about an hour I finally found the Delta office and asked if I could come back for my husband’s bag (there was no end in sight on the hold time due to the weather pattern sitting over us, lightning was SO bad). They said sure so off we went. Poor Mark was barely standing by then as he had been up for almost 24 hours in his brain by then due to the time difference. The airport itself was a MESS with traffic, there was NO parking in the cell phone lot and the trip for half a mile to the terminal was 20-30 minutes it was that busy. I was glad to get out of there. BUT NO we aren’t done yet, then we got on 85 heading for home and an accident happened right in front of us and we were at a standstill on 85 for at least an hour in the middle of a huge tstorm, pouring rain etc.(I was getting worried we were not getting home). UGH. We finally got moving again and pulled into the driveway about 11:30. And I was exhausted but Mark could barely walk! LOL He was in lala land by then.

C) CHARLOTTE

How I felt driving in Charlotte in traffic…two days in a row!

I had to drive back the next day to Charlotte airport to get Mark’s bag. So Wednesday was shot. UGH. It was actually very easy getting his bag so that was great, then I decided to go to the Dover Saddlery in Charlotte. While 13 miles away it took about 40 minutes to get there (CHARLOTTE SUCKS). And once there I got a few things but quickly realized it is not fun shopping when your horse is lame!! This was my first visit to a tack store in years and I now realize while fun, I can buy online easier!

D) VETS

Look who was finally 15.2 hands or more for a few minutes!

Remus’s vet appt was Thursday! Toulouse (Remus’s friend) ended up being lame all week and on stall rest so he came along too to have a vet visit too. It was pouring and humid as HELL! ICK! But off we went. The vet clinic was very busy. But we finally both unloaded and got to see our vets.

So we went there to consult and get hock injections. We ended up totally concentrating on his front half instead. Because he is still lame up front. Back too but like wth with this front leg going lame off and on? SO we lunged him, flexed him then blocked that foot. THEN we x-rayed that foot. And found some interesting things. Not surprising things, my vet said. I mean he is a 22 year old fat quarter horse with some navicular changes going on. Again nothing major but definitely probably part of the problem.

So my horse has arthritis in the hocks and probably some arthritis in the front. We discussed non steroidal treatment and we had talked about doing the hock injections. And my vet was like let’s try something different. SO my horse got to go home and go out for now (We have to take him off Equioxx before he can get the injection (IM). And I of course lost my brain and forgot the drug we are giving him. ) She is coming out next week to give it. We will give it 30 days and then reevaluate and then if we need to the hock injections we will. But she feels it is all over bone and body aches not just the hocks and she thinks this treatment may help him feel better. I will add the actual name of the drug once my vet office gets back to me LOL! God I am an idiot! UPDATE: here is what it is!

Also my vet is sending the xrays of the front feet to my farrier and will call him to make changes on how he is shod up front. The way Remus grows his front toes is troublesome as due to that he is rocked back on his heels more which you guessed it makes his front more sore. So we will be doing some corrective stuff at his next shoeing. SO I THINK we have a plan! YAY. Hopefully it helps my fat buckskin a bit.

(Quick sidebar, while we thought Toulouse had fallen and hurt himself comes to find out he has an infection of some sort they sent off some tests (Lyme? Something else?) so hopefully he will feel better soon. LUCKILY he gets to turn out again and him and Remus were very happy when we got home and they both were out in the field in the humid but cooler weather!)

And today is Friday and I need a nap and another staycation!! Busy busy but this is how it goes. I have not missed Work a BIT! UGH. Dreading Monday!

Oh and today is mine, my sister’s and my husband’s birthday! Crazy right?

Happy birthday to all of us!!

  1. Happy birthday to all of y’all! I’m glad to hear y’all have a plan for Remus – I’m sure he’s very unhappy about his time off during these deathly hot months lolol

  2. Happy Birthday!!!

I hope the Osphos does the trick and Remus is feeling better asap! Al has a stubby side to one of his coffin bones behind, so he also has gotten that one. Seemed to help him, so hopefully will for you guys too.
Charlotte traffic sounds like a nightmare! Glad you survived it!
