Fall is a Time for Change

Okay it is not feeling like Fall here yet but I swear it should soon. The official day of Fall was just this past weekend so come on cooler weather. On the actual first day of Fall? Yeah it hit 89. Not as hot as it was this past Summer but a hell of a lot hotter than I like the end of September. Remus is getting big bug bites again (on his belly and back). It is just gross.

Remus got his PEMF treatment last week and loved every minute of it again. Lindsay also rode him for me on Saturday so I could get some videos and photos. He was a very good boy even though it was getting hot already. He is also a bit rotund. But when you spend part of the summer standing in front of fans eating. What do you expect? Shit it has happened to me except I sat in the air conditioning and didn’t eat hay!

his dapples are GORGEOUS right now…

So changes. They are a coming.

Remus leaves this week to for a trial for a 10 year old girl in Mississippi (I know the barn owner), on one hand I really really think Remus will like having a kid and some more activity, on the other hand it is Remus who is leaving.

But it is a 30 day trial lease and month to month after that. He is so much sounder and they realize he has maintenance that is ongoing. This kid seems to be a really good egg and wants to have her own horse to take lessons on and the parents are trying to keep the kid happy, etc. It is worth a try. I do wish it was closer but I am going to Memphis in early November for a work convention so can hopefully run down to see Remus in person then. And no questions asked if they decide he is not the right horse, asap he will travel back to NC.

Meanwhile, Luna is going to come to Remus’s barn in October and we will start operation overhaul on her. Get her shod again and realize no one is going to hurt her. Let her be a horse as well. And then figure out next steps (Pretty sure if we can get her sound I will be selling her, if nothing else this experiment has taught me I don’t need a young horse! Big fat no to that!)

So what does this mean for ye old Fat Buckskin blog site? I hope to keep posting about as sporadically as I do now. I hope to have updates to share with you re Remus. And I know you guys are interested in how Luna ends up!! So there you go. Lots of changes happening!!

Stay tuned. You never know what might happen next!

Eww David, Indeed What Now?? 🙂

  1. Could there maybe be a future horse if Luna is sold…?? Still love hearing about everything, and I do hope it works out with Remus with the young girl! He’ll be gone which is so sad, but I’m sure that kid will love him. I’m battling that right now whether or not to send Amber to a trainer as a lesson horse for the wee kids, and she wouldn’t even be going that far away from me, so I feel you lol.

  2. Oh I’m so sad for you! But if this is what you and Remus need, then it’s the right thing to do. I bet he’ll love having a doting kid.
Hopefully you can get Luna sorted out quickly too. And then I hope you’ll find the right horse again. Keep us updated!

  3. These decisions that we have to make with our horses are tough. Whether they develop health problems or just simply don’t work out for our goals the way that we hoped. It’s all difficult to manage, but it sounds like you’ve got some solid plans for both Remus and Luna. I’ll watch for updates and hope things go smoothly for you and the horses.

  4. We’re living slightly parallel lives. I have zero regrets leasing Bridget – I mean, I miss her, but the little updates with her happy kid are so wonderful! I hope the same is true for you with Remus ❤ As for Luna, I didn’t want to say it on your last post, but yeah while it has worked out ‘ok’ now and I’ve learned a lot, I have regrets not making that call sooner with Sophie – I just procrastinated and made it harder lol. Good luck with everything!

  5. Oh my heart aches for you with Remus but it sounds like he is going to a really good place for a young kid to work with a cool pony for the winter. And fingers crossed for Luna, it sounds like a very solid plan for her. I think you’re making good choices and I’ll be glad to follow and cheer you on as you go and your horse journey goes through seasons of change.
