Welcome New Guy!

New guy, he who must not be named, hey you, and so on!! I adore him and have ridden him a few times already. I am SLOWLY learning how to ride him and he is turning out to be a real sweet guy to be around. Which is good since he looks huge when you are standing beside him.

turnout with Toulouse was a non-issue!

While barefoot for now he is hauling to vet for farrier in a couple weeks to see how we can support him better as we put some weight on him and keep him sound let’s hope for a long time. His vet findings were a bit upsetting but I still decided to go for it and I am not sorry at all. I may be down the road but for now you ride the horse you have? Right?

What he has is a bit of juvenile arthritis in his right hoof and it was not caught in an earlier PPE at his old owners.

Emily and her spreadsheets and stuff helped make my decisions possible LOL!

Considering he most likely came from Amish and is only 5 that means he probably was worked really hard as a baby. You can tell how much he is enjoying life (and the unending hay buffet) at his new place now.

Riding him took a hot minute. First we had to find a bridle that fit. Not easy when you board at a barn full of COB bridles (of which four are MINE!!). We finally found a bridle that will work for now that Lindsay had. We did have some bigger bits thank goodness. Also my saddle really doesn’t fit him (Who would think there was a horse with bigger shoulders than Remus!!?). But he needs weight before we even think of looking at saddles!

Lindsay likes him too and enjoys riding him. She gets married in a week and 3 days (I may be counting more than she is!!) and I am ready for this to be over so she can help me get him going!!

I think she is glad that I bought a horse tall enough for her long legs! HA.

As to names. Have at it in the comments. Here are our front runners. Dude needs a name. SOON!

1. Flynn (Ryder Die (Thanks Emily!) or In Like Flynn)

2. Seymour (Suddenly, Seymour)

3. Maxwell (Last Drop)

4. Woodrow (Row Your Boat)

5. Tristan (Trist & Shout)

Any other ideas? Welcome to the (funny) farm, big guy. You are going to fit in fine (Odd, slightly goofy, and a sweetie)!

And please don’t judge but here he was on our third ride. The ground in the ring is hard and lumpy right now so ugh. We didn’t do a whole lot!! )

Nothing exciting of course but I am so thrilled with him!! I can’t wait to get to know him better (AND NAME HIM)! HA

  1. You know I love those big horses 😀 So happy to see y’all getting along well together, this is so much fun to watch. Welcome to the world of oversized bridles / halters / everything! Maxwell and Woodrow have my vote!

In keeping with “Remus” my first thought was naming him “Sirius” lolol But I love Flynn too (my first thought was Flynn Rider from Tangled lol) His luscious hair was reminding me of Flynn Rider as well haha!
