Finn is settling in great, and indeed last week and this week, he got a clean bill of health from both his vet and farrier and is gaining weight like gangbusters! He has had a busy couple weeks as have I as I had no idea I didn’t blog last week. HA! Oops

We went to the vet last week for our recheck on his canker, no canker is left. All healed! How amazing?

He was like a toddler in a waiting room at the doctor’s though, waiting for vet to come. He was sticking his head in the muck bucket, grabbing the hose off the wall, watching a lameness exam horse trot back and forth. I was so thrilled when they said he was all okay to go back to work!

He also managed to get some kind of hunga funga on his butt and back left leg the other week, rain rot, scratches whatever (no rain though). He scared me over a weekend as he didn’t feel great but texting the vet we waited till they opened again and put him on SMZs and I have been medicating and bathing it and it looks better. But it was gross.

Let’s not talk about how much money I have spent on this horse hahahah.
Then I had Stubben come out to fit him to figure out what size of tree I need for the mountain who is named Finnegan. The fitter loved him (duh) and we tried on about six-seven saddles all within an hour and Finn was like whatever man, treats coming after right?

He was totally bored with this whole thing but was so good even doing all that. I climbed up and off him like he was Mount Everest and we figured out he needed a 30 tree in Stubben (I have a 29 of course) and a mattes pad. He is uneven under the saddle with one shoulder larger than the other that work will fix. We realize he doesn’t go as well to the left and I think that we will figure this out as we go forward.
I rode in a Stubben platinum (neither Finn nor I liked), a Roxanne which was very comfy and a couple others but of course I liked the Zaria Optimum the best as did Finn (We likes what we likes!). Not sure if I will buy new or just see if i can find the perfect storm of a saddle (used). For now I can use my Excalibur so that is good.

He loaded up on Monday and headed to the vet again and got his feetsies done by Rob and as I stated above his feet look great.

In case you can’t read between the lines I adore this horse and cannot thank my husband enough for helping me purchase this horse! Mark I love you (I did before this but really really do now HA!)

Also enjoy my big toddler horse at the farrier, keeping himself entertained while waiting. Big Goofball.
Who couldn’t love this big dufus? Just me?
Happy Wednesday!!

How wonderful to see your new horse thrive under your care! Finn sounds like a terrific guy that lots of us would love. And the husband sounds pretty good too. 🙂 Hoping all the best for you and Finn!

Second: he’s looking so good! It really looks like he’s thriving, and that his sweet but curious personality is really starting to flourish with you. I’m so glad his feet are doing well and that he’s getting a clean bill of health! (weird fungus aside) I am so glad that you’re having such a good time with him ❤
