Blogging: What Changed??

Back in Tennessee this week. Call me a revolving door! My cats were stars on the drive to NC as well they are now already there living in the new house. Thanks Mark for taking care of them! We are still hoping the right person comes and loves our farm. The market has slowed down right now (OF COURSE OUR TIMING IS SHIT ALWAYS). Fingers crossed soon…..

So I was working on my blog account this past weekend and decided to clean up the ones I am following. I was surprised so many are paused or inactive or just not blogging anymore.

When I started this blog (Eventing Bingo, anyone?) in March of 2017 EVERYONE was blogging. What changed? I know we are all busy with life and myself I have slowed down to once a week if I am lucky. But I still enjoying sharing my ups and downs (More downs than ups lately) even if no one reads them.

things you see driving thru the mountains!

The pandemic in my mind helped shore up the blogging but now that is quote unquote Over (I hear cases are ramping up again, lovely not) it seems to have slowed down even more. Now some of you are still dedicated and blogging most weeks and thank you very much for this.

Ollie however is NOT worried about the blogging world…

But did we all just get tired of writing our words down? I am going to post some of my favorite posts from my blog from the last few years. And I suggest others to do the same if they are out of content. Or too busy to write something fresh. BLOGGERS UNITE. We can do this!

  1. I have absolutely noticed that, and I know I’m not exempt from it either! I have definitely slowed down in blogging (A LOT). I guess for me I don’t like being a downer all the time, and with little horse time (105+ is no fun to ride and I can’t take that heat anymore) and an inherited house and doxie that I need to take care of, I think I fear things will be too boring for people to read haha. I like checking in with people though, and seeing that the ones I follow are still doing well, so maybe it’s the same for others haha. Either way, I hope you get things sorted with your TN house soon!

  2. Oooh I am a victim of “so much happens in 1 week and I can’t remember it all” on top of “time to write? What time???” I miss my regular blogging but I’m horrid at remembering everything that happens in one week and by the time I sit down to do it it’s gone. Definitely noticed the lull in posts even on my own page but trying to keep up. Also what is time?? It feels like it’s passing faster than I can write. Hope the house stuff sorts soon!

  3. You’re right – there has been a definite slow down. I’m def guilty of it… not writing for awhile and then before you know it, too much time has passed to pick up on filling the gaps. I do still love reading blogs so I suppose I should start writing more regularly again (thanks for kicking my ass into gear)

  4. I… kind of knew going into blogging that I’m bad at sticking with that kind of thing. Throw in the pandemic, having a colt I was excited about that I had to put down, and just… whoosh. All the wind outta my sails. I keep thinking, “I should go post something!” and then “well, but the photos are on my phone… I’ll do it later…” and the cycle starts all over again.

  5. I think a lot of people’s lifestyles changed after the pandemic and maybe just have less time to sit down and type out all the words. I miss reading about everyone’s adventures who have stopped blogging, but I do understand sometimes there’s just not time for it. Or they don’t want to share so much anymore. Or whatever. But I’m so glad that those of us still blogging are still around! Hopefully some of the others will get back to it at some point.

  6. Just this week I started revisiting my (long-dormant) blog… why did I stop writing there? I think I lost my focus and felt like it didn’t matter much because nobody was reading anyway. Like, there’s soooo much vying for everyone’s attention, why would they read my words? But I think writers write more for ourselves than for our readers, which is why readers feel they can relate. On a purely mechanical level, I migrated all my content from Blogger to WordPress to some other platform a designer recommended… and now I can’t figure out how to make any of them work. Ha. Thinking for my NaNoWriMo project this year, I’ll either resurrect TallGirlsAdventures or I’ll start something wholly new. Just need to carve the space. I enjoy your blog and keeping up with you this way, MJ. xo

  7. I’ve slowed down because I’m simply not doing much I’m feeling invested in documenting (and while I love the community, at heart this really is just me writing for myself). I was chatting with my coach the other day and she felt like the majority of her clients are in the same boat riding wise – they still haven’t got back into showing, lessons, a regular training routine, etc after covid. Like maybe they took a step back and either didn’t miss it or just haven’t found their way back yet, but whatever the case participation in clubs and shows is down both locally and regionally. Maybe I’m wrong but I feel like training and show and progress updates were the bread and butter of a lot of blogs.
In general I also think vlogs or reels are the way people are more apt to consume diary entry type media these days. I’m a reader, so I still appreciate all the blogs.

    1. I still love reading too and would much rather read than watch anything! You are really doing great writing each week but you could post photos of your ponies and I would be happy enough 🙂 Thanks!

  8. It’s easier just to whine to you via text/messenger? In all seriousness, I hate writing the same thing over and over again. I either have nothing to say of value, or I’m boring. Maybe if my horse stops being a walking disaster… wait, that’ll never happen.

  9. I enjoyed the walk down memory lane with all the links to previous posts. I don’t think I ever read your very first post before. Hope everything about your move continues to go as smoothly as possible. You are spinning so many plates all at once, and I know that is not an easy thing to do.

As a blog writer, I am a relative newcomer. This Summer marked three and half years of writing for me. As a blog reader, I have to work to keep up with all the blogs that I currently follow so I can’t imagine being a reader back in the blogging hay day. How did everyone absorb all that content? I know that FeedSpot still lists over 100 horse-related blogs under a few different categories like 100 Best Equestrian Blogs and Websites and 100 Top Horse Training Blogs and Websites among others. I’ve noticed that some of those blogs are no longer current or active, but their ranking still holds, speaking to the potential staying power of certain blogs.

Anywho, I think it’s pretty neat you’ve been blogging for six years on now, through all the moves and changes. That is a cool accomplishment as far as I’m concerned!
